VXPASS, a blockchain-based vaccine verification platform, has announced last May 11 that it has officially been contracted by the Sesiu sa Tšoele le beta Poho Fund (SESIU) to manage the Kingdom of Lesotho's COVID-19 vaccination rollout.

Public-private partnership SESIU is working under the mandate of the Prime Minister of Lesotho, the Rt. Hon. Dr Moeketsi Majoro, to administer COVID-19 vaccines for the entire population of the African nation. The agreement states that VXPASS will manage the first 560,000 vaccinations in Lesotho, with a projected number of 1.2 million people vaccinated by the end of the year.

"The risk posed to Lesotho by the COVID-19 pandemic is immense for the country's 2.3 million citizens. At the same time, with some imagination and innovation, there is also scope for new opportunities to emerge. It is my strong belief that VXPASS and Lesotho's blockchain-based approach to managing our vaccine program will demonstrate the level of digital innovation evident in our country and help us take the lead with this technology across the African continent," Dr. Catherine Lephoto, former deputy CEO for core operations of and current advisor to the National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) in Lesotho, said.

"Data management is an essential component in our vaccination roll-out strategy, ensuring that we are making the best and most efficient use of all available resources to our Kingdom, as we combat the ongoing effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. As part of these efforts, VXPASS have provided a ready-to-use, cost-effective solution to manage the data and digital requirements of our vaccination program-both for the roll-out and administration period now, as well as in the validation and verification phases in the future-as we embark on this major undertaking for Lesotho and focus on the recovery for our Kingdom, community and economy," SESIU Executive Secretary Phafane Nkotsi added.

zzVXPASS will manage the entire vaccine for all citizens of Lesotho

VXPASS will manage and record the entire vaccine course up to its completion for all citizens of Lesotho. Because it is built on the Bitcoin SV (BSV) blockchain, VXPASS can accommodate the big data that will be generated from 2.3 million vaccinations. The BSV blockchain is the only one capable of providing low-cost microtransactions due to its stable protocol and infinitely scalable network. As BSV continues to scale, the bigger the data each block can handle and the cheaper its fee per transaction gets. Fees are currently at 0.0043 USD per transaction. With vaccines on blockchain, the already burdened healthcare professionals can spend less time and effort recording and keeping track of vaccinations.

"When blockchain technology is allowed to demonstrate its full-spectrum of capabilities beyond just enabling digital currency, it illustrates the game-changing potential that blockchain offers for enterprises and governments-and ultimately, society as a whole. The BSV blockchain, which powers VXPASS, is uniquely situated to meet the requirements of government and enterprise projects of this scale and offers truly ground-breaking technology to help countries advance their digital transformation-which is a top priority in Africa," the founding president of Bitcoin Association, the Switzerland-based global industry organization promoting the adoption of the BSV blockchain, Jimmy Nguyen, said.

With COVID-19 vaccines on blockchain, it is easier for various government entities to monitor the national vaccination rollout as data is publicly accessible and updated in real time. Furthermore, citizens will have access to their personal vaccine records through the VXPASS mobile app, allowing them to be able to present proof of their completion of the vaccine course whenever needed.

"By using VXPASS, the Kingdom of Lesotho is ensuring from the outset that all data generated and captured is not only of the highest quality, but that it is publicly available on the blockchain in real time-ensuring the utmost levels of transparency, validity, personal control and ultimately, confidence on this road to recovery," VXPASS founder Zachary Weiner stated.
